What does having a job coach at my business look like?

Having a job coach on site should not disrupt your business or other employees. The job coach should blend in as much as they can. The goal of the job coach is to help the person learn their job. The job coach is trained in job retention techniques. Job coaching can be short term or long-term depending on the person and your business needs. Each person and business is so unique and job coaching is meant to be the same thing. A coach can do short check-in or stay for the entire shift. Illies Consulting staff can have that conversation with you to develop a plan for the coach.

Will hiring a person with a disability cause my workers comp rates to go up?

No, hiring the right person for the right job – one in which they can be successful no matter if they have or do not have a disability should not affect your work comp rates. In fact, studies have shown that people with disabilities are more careful on worksites than the general public.

What happens if the person does not work out?

We want to make sure that the individual you hire is a good match but just like any hiring sometimes things do not work out. The expectation is that you treat an employee with a disability as any other staff and that they help you get the job done and done well. If needed, we could help train the person and/or can direct you to possible training funds. If that does not work and the person is not a match, just like any other employee you have the right to end their employment.

Where can I find more information about why hiring workers with disabilities is good for my business?
